This idea of answering questions every Friday from
thefridayfive looks like fun, and I'm way out of the habit of blogging regularly, so hey, why not?
How many times have you been in love?
I count love as a different thing than crushes, and I tend not to give my whole heart, just little bits. And if I'm honest, I try to only give the bits I won't miss too much. I've felt attraction, I've been swept away by fantasy, and I've felt the deep bonds of friendship, but in my definition of the word I've really been in love only twice.
When is the appropriate time to first say that you are?
I only say it when I mean it, and never before. It's a big word to throw around and it hurts people when you say it and don't mean it. Maybe not right away, but it will.
Do you think it is a good idea to live with a significant other before you are married?
I think everybody's different. I think marriage means different things to different people - and there are some people who, unfortunately, can't get married (yet) due to the state or the country they live in. If all parties are in agreement and everyone is up front about what the commitment of living together means and doesn't mean, then hey, what's wrong with it? Breaking up after living together is going to hurt just as much as getting a divorce. Being irresponsible with other people's feelings is a bad deal whether you've got a legally binding document or not.
Would I do it? In a heartbeat, if the situation made it possible. I don't have the luxury of living in the same state with my sweetheart, and believe me, I treasure the snippets of time we get in one another's company.
How soon is too soon to move in together?
I believe my gut will tell me that one. Arbitrary timelines are just guaranteed to cause heartache. I do think, though, that it's a good idea to get a sense of each other's living habits before co-signing that lease or loan, though.
When do you think you will get married? OR Favorite Vegetable? :)
Oh, hands down, potatoes are my favorite vegetable. Boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew... I love french fries, and potato salad, and crispy fried potatoes, and baked potatoes, and potato chips, and yeah. Pretty bad for my waistline, but oh, so good.
