Have you ever shipped a pair of characters in a fandom that you're not sure you should? As in... not that you theoretically can't ship them, but openly writing fic or proclaiming your love for the pairing could be hazardous to your health?
I do.
Don't get me wrong, I don't even watch All My Children anymore. Occasionally I catch five minutes of it before I flip the channel to Anthony Bourdain's "No Reservations" when I'm home for lunch. I'm pissed off at that television show for more reasons than one. I understand the concept of the show, and the fact that it's one big demographics-heavy marketing ploy trying desperately to pretend it's something else, but that doesn't stop me from hating how careless it was with its storylines about the handful of homosexual couples.
But I digress.
My little protest against this show is by shipping two of the most awesome, most abused male characters. They've both been subjected to any number of femme fatales and ridiculously bad plotlines, yet they still manage to rock as characters. They're loosely friends in canon, connected in all sorts of ridiculous canon ways (they were both married to the same girl at different points, etc.) and they work well together, and I see chemistry without having to work hard for it.
So off in my little corner, I like to write little mental stories about them, and ignore the show now entirely. Actually, my shipping isn't sexual, but just... supportiveness. They decide they've had enough of being yanked around and forced to jump through hoops by their trainwreck love lives, swear off women, get matching tattoos, and ride their Harleys off into the sunset.
But the show's rabid hetero fanbase will probably get out the torches and pitchforks if I ever 'fess up publicly. *snicker* Or exile me to the wastelands of... I'unno. Port Charles, or something.
Edit:
Oh wait. I just did.
